News from Lockington CE VC Primary School

We certainly have had a busy time since we got back to school in September; I can’t believe Christmas is nearly here.  The staff and children are getting ready for their festive production: ‘Christmas around the World’.

Many visitors have been to the school this term, including The Bishop of Whitby, the Right Reverend Paul Ferguson, Chair of the York Diocesan Board of Education, who spotted the school in a Yorkshire Post feature called ‘Top of the Class’, celebrating academic performance.  He commented on “the real sense of pupils enjoying effective teaching and learning” and he shared his experiences of working in South Africa.  The children treated him to a performance of their harvest festival songs and presented him with a beautiful artwork they had created for him.

We also welcomed Anne Fitzpatrick, our School Sports Coordinator who is linked to ‘The School Sports Partnership’ which helps us to provide an inclusive, varied and high quality school sports experience for our pupils.   Mrs Fitzpatrick presented us with the School Games Gold Award: an outstanding achievement, demonstrating the high level of our participation in competitive games.

Author and illustrator, Stephen Waterhouse, helped us to create a vibrant artwork which is now on display in our school reception area.  Drawings by every child are featured in the design, which can also be viewed on the ‘It’s Our World’ website http://www.itisourworld.org.uk/gallery/, the UK’s largest art project celebrating the environment and promoting sustainability, demonstrating how our children care about their environment.

We are also looking forward to performing at the Partners Showcase at Hull City Hall with our ‘True Colours’ show, where the whole school take to the stage.  Our Christmas Fair is on Thursday 26th November at 6pm, to which you are warmly invited.  A Christingle Service will take place at St Mary’s Church on Thursday 10th December and we will end the year with a visit to see ‘Peter Pan’ at Bridlington Spa on Thursday 17th December, thanks to the generosity of the Friends of Lockington School who continue to raise money to give the children those extras that make their school experience so special.

Wishing you a merry Christmas and a happy new year!
